My fascination for an "uninteresting" game..

Okay, so I'll divert a bit from my regular poetry and digitally manipulated junk and write about something which is genuinely close to my heart (No..its not about a guy! :P)
There's one game that has fascinated me since I was a child. Didn't quite under understand it but loved the dynamics of it. While everyone would watch n play Cricket, I'd surf channels to catch a match of this sport. 9-ball pool is what I'm talking about..

Distressed, I am to see its condition is India..nobody really watches it or understands it. Boring, stagnant, slow and "uncool" are what some of my acquaintances describe it as. hmmmmm..I call that irrational-illogical interpretation of a wonderful game that requires great deal of grey cells dribbling away to chart out a clever move on the table. I find peace..I mean literally with my friends from Taiwan and Phillipines with endless discussions on who'll win and who'll lose in the tourneys. I'd be lost without 'em!..lol.

Another particularly annoying thing that I'm asked about is how I manage to remember the names of the players? I back Taiwan in world pool and as always they have the typical names -- Yang Ching Shun, Chao Fong Pang, Wu Chia Ching, Kuo Po Cheng, Chang Jung Ling, Chang Pei Wei n lots more. To my acquaintances.. its nothing more than "chilli chicken" or "pork shang dong"..I'm like..Sha!!

I must say thats a F******ly Awesome (Appologies for being Explicit) Blog on Pool. After playing a lot of pool, I guess I should start watching more of it.

I completely & totally agree with you on The Cue sport of Pool. People in India are so highly obsessed with Cricket & think its the most competitive sport to be played.

Hell No, I believe an Indoor sport like Pool is a much more competitive sport, which requires mental alertness, concentration power, skills on how to make the right stroke coupled with some Physical activity. Its by no means an Uninteresting Game. In fact gives you a more exhilarating & mind-energizing feeling compared to playing Cricket. Geet Sethi & Pankaj Advani are more talented sportsman than Dhoni & Yuvraj. And look at the way the media treats them.

Cricket Sucks, its the game of respite for lazy fat bums who need an excuse for not doing chores, not taking the kids out, not breathing fresh air and not taking a daily shower! No wonder Fatsos like Inzamam & Arjuna Ranatunga became legends.

The Silly game of Cricket stops if lights are too bright, if it's raining or snowing. I mean, dude! Go chew on your McDonalds and STOP calling yourself sportsmen. Soccer (Football) continues in rain and snow because both teams get equal opportunities for performing according to their skills.

An extrapolation of the previous point, I find it ironic that people actually comment on how the pitch was favorable for one team and wasn't for the other and still like the game.

No one actually likes Cricket apart from former British colonies. This is actually a game of slaves. Batsman can actually have other people running for him. This is probably the only 'sport' where a sportsman is allowed to have others do the physical exertion for him. The noble swings the bat and the drudges collect the ball. That's the reason why you won't find France, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, China, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Italy or USA in a Cricket World Cup.

Coming back to your blog, I'm now being very honest here & no flattery. Your mind Shreya is like a richly woven tapestry in which the colors are purified from your experiences of senses, and the design drawn from the adaptation of your intellect.

Your holistic approach to the subject coupled with your unflinching zeal is certainly commendable. When you take up an issue, you become one with it. You are not afraid of accepting the bare truth as it is. And you propound it with the fearless zest of a warrior. I salute that quality of yours!

Oh god, I've said too much. But what to do, I'm not a man of few words you see.

Cheers
