The Spirit Within

The Spirit Within

An ordinary life, the daily routine.
Dull and boring to the adventurous it may seem.
Not that I do not let my spirit soar high.
Irregularities and inconsistencies keep her from touching the sky.

I stare into the pin-prick holes of the shower.
In anticipation for it to wake me up from the sweet bower.
The gurgle and it comes lashing down.
Furiously hitting against me, I feel my weariness drown.

My lashes flutter as I darken my eyes,
The mirror silently screams at me to shed the false guise.
I embark upon another longitudinal day,
Mundane and monotonous it is, needless to say.

Free spirited and uncaring of the world I want to be.
Break the chains that bind me, invisible to the prying eyes spying on me,
So apprehensive of let going myself to sound's faintest din,
Murderous, it is to cage one's spirit within.

Another great piece to enjoy!

I love the way you use violent imagery to portray the morning routines. It brings the whole idea of the poem to life.

Thank you for sharing. :)
